I am looking to purchase a 1980 lull 644 gas job motor. The machine itself is in fair condition. It does need some work like a new master cylinder, a couple of leaking hoses. Tires are weather checked but about 50 percent good. It's also a gas job motor. Would anyone know what a fair price for this machine would be? The paint is still in fair condition also. Thanks

Roanoke Hustler forklift advice wanted
Hey,
First off, Roanoke Hustler went out of business WAY before the interwebz, so there's zero info out there on these machines. Google will show you a few for sale, that's it. Wondering if any of the gray hairs on this site have any experience with these machines.
That said, I have an option to buy an old Roanoke Hustler 12k forklift. I would be using it around my shop yard to move equipment here and there, so it doesn't have to be pretty but I do have to be able to keep it working. I would estimate no more than one hour's running time per week if that. Have never bought a big forklift before and would like your advice.
This machine is owned by a customer of mine and they have put it out to pasture. I don't have enough work for a 12k forklift to spend $20,000 on a newer one. Customer wants $3500 for this one, can probably get it for less. I'm seeing comparable-capacity worn-out used forklifts with prices listed at over $10,000 although I have no idea how much they actually sell for.
Dual wheels with 22.5" truck rims out front, driven through a Rockwell truck rear. Engine is a JD 4219D and transmission is a Funk 4000. Single-stage lift raises to 11'. Has raise/lower, tilt, and sideshift. Fork tines are 6' long, have been welded at the heels and need to be replaced. Have one quote at $1500 for a new set of tines, delivered. Steering is shot - bellcrank needs to be bored and rebushed. Rear wheels are old 8" x 20" split rims and tires are holding air but are no good. Brakes and transmission work. No leaks at any of the mast cylinders, and I left the mast a foot off the ground for a week with no drift at the main cylinder rod and only slight drift (3/8") at the tilt cylinder rods.
Roanoke Hustler parts dried up a long time ago, but I'm wondering if that really matters as long as I can rebuild what's in the machine. I'm a one-man business, so I don't have a ton of money to blow on something that gets limited use. I would think something like this could be made to work for a long time to come at less than 50 hrs per year, but your thoughts would be appreciated as I don't buy much heavy equipment.
Thanks in advance.

skytrak 8042 legacy brakes not fully releasing
hello to all; our skytrak 8042 legacy brakes do not full release. It will release enough so it will move but they are dragging to much to use the machine. We just brought it in from the job site and haven't checked any thing yet. It seems like all 4 brakes are involved. Any help much appreciated Roger

Jcb 520
Hello all. I was hoping to get an opinion on a 2004 JCB 520 that is located at a company where my friend works. They are planning on selling it due to them not using it that much anymore. It has under 2500 hours which my friend believes to be true. No hour meter was changed or disconnected while he's been there. It looks to be in good condition with not a whole lot of abuse.
Is this a year I should avoid? Also my use will be primarily around a warehouse and on cement/asphalt.

1989 lull 644 noisy brakes
Hey everyone,
I bought this older 1989 lull highlander 644 last year and I had posted some questions about it and you all were very helpful, well.... I need some more help. I have built two houses with it and its been great. I cannot complain at all about how it has been performing for me given that its a 1989. So when I first bought it I went through the machine and changed all the fluids and fixed a few other issues I had with it. The last house I did had a steep grade to the back yard and a few times going down the hill the brakes kinda chattered and seemed a little sticky but were fine on a flat grade. Today I had it at my new frame and the brakes are chatering all the time now. It doesent seem bad like something is hurting it just makes a little chatter just as it stops. My concern is that I may have put the wrong fluid in the wheel ends. My excavator told me to just use 80-90 gear oil when I changed the fluids he said that gear oil is gear oil and not to worry about it. Now I think maybe I should have used the fluid that the manual calls for.(80-90w was readily available at the time) Anyone familiar with this issue? The service manual says brake chattering could be due to the wrong fluid or low fluid. They are not low I checked them two days ago before I had the lull brought to the job site. I would like to resolve this before I tear something up. My other issue is when I checked the front diff because the seal has a slow leak and it was a solid 2 qts. over full and seems thin like hydraulic oil. Could there be any way the front dif. lock is spilling hyd. oil into the front axle? Thats the only reason I can think of why it would have so wuch extra fluid.
Any advise on these issues would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Pete

JLG 40H voltage drop when switched to platform
Hey guys first time to this site. A wealth of information. I have a 1999 jlg 40h. When I switch it to platform control the voltage drops to 11v from 13.5 and about 20 seconds later the machine shuts off. My guess is something is shorting on the platform side, getting hot, and opening a solenoid. Or something along those lines. I haven't worked on a machine like this before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Josh

My first telehandler - a question
I'm buying a late 80's dynalift D4P60 (6000lb cap 32ft) for $7k shipped from 3 hrs away. I talked the guy down from $10k fairly easily, and they sent me three videos of it operating and running.
It appears to run fine, and looks good short of needing a muffler, has good foam filled tires.
I have a question regarding the fork boom, it telescopically extends very slow and even slower when on at an angle. If there are no leaks what could be the causes of this - i was told the chain looks clean.. Upon delivery are there certain things i should check for with this dynalift with respect to the issue I mentioned? It has an old 4 cyl Deere engine

Genie GTH 1056
I wanted to let you all know what my thoughts were about this machine. Not good. Had the door window busted two times, the design is poor. The frame is to flimsy and the window latch needs reengineering. This model I am running has one control lever with a button on top and bottom to change functions. I don't like this since you can't do three functions at once with any presion movements. Control feel is terrible. Difficult to be precise the solenoids act like a light switch. Also if you are boming up, telescoping out and steering. The hydraulics on the steering will stall and you have to stop a function to turn. Visibility is bad, hard to see the forks and the right side mirror is in a almost useless spot mounted on the top of the tilt cyclender. I am going to change it over to side.I just have to build a bracket. Only good things I have to say about it is that it has a good engine transmission and axles. Well it is a Terex I know and maybe I shouldn't expect it to perform like a JCB or Cat. But I do expect more from a machine,a new one at that. Genie get back in your bottle.

Top Forklift Truck Suppliers & Regions
Hello all!
I read an article recently on a website I check out from time to time for news on various heavy machinery industries. The article listed the top 20 forklift truck manufacturers based on company revenue. I thought of starting a discussion on this thread to attain some more information on the general perspective of other people in the heavy machinery industry.
As we all know, forklifts are used in all sorts of industries and can be found almost anywhere.
I would like to know people's perspective on Chinese forklift brands.
Heli, Maximal, EP, Lonking, Shantui are the brands I've got a few remarks about here and there. I'm wondering what markets they've succeeded in and how their performance have been.
Feel free to join the discussion, any kind of input would be appreciated! :)

Lull Hydraulic Cylinder Drift
I'm experiencing hydraulic cylinder drift on multiple cylinders at the same time. Its primarily the main boom elevation and telescoping, maybe also carriage tilt. It doesn't seem like a check valve thing to me since it started at the same time on both.

Does anyone know anything about 1996 vintage Gehl 830 rough terrain forklift?
Dear forum members,
I am looking for an all-terrain type forklift that can lift a few thousand pounds 20 to 30 feet high for a year or two on my home addition project. I would use it like lightly for a few hours per week. The price of fairly decent looking telehandlers is beyond the budget.
I have found a 1996 Gehl 830 locally that will hoist 8000 lbs 30 feet high. Perkins engine (not sure if diesel or gas) that puts out a little blue smoke when engine is revved up. Brakes need work. I cannot find any information anywhere on the Gehl 830 machine.
Does anyone have any experience of knowledge of the Gehl 830 or this vintage Gehl all-terrain vintage? I could live with the blue smoke if the machine continues to operate well.
Thank you for your comments. I'd appreciate any help I can get!
Roger.

jlg lift
Hello. I'm new here I hope this is the right spot to post this. I have an olddddd jlg 437 boom lift with a Wisconsin gas and propane engine. It has an electric choke mounted to the exhaust which I think is the reason the lift isn't running. It starts if you run the choke by hand and may run for awhile after it warms up but dies under a load. I can't seem to find the lift listed anywhere let alone the part. Any help would be appreciated.

JLG 450 AJ boom lift
I have a hydraulic question. The platform that you stand in rotates left or right using a Helac rotator. It is very weak and requires a push sometimes just to get it to rotate either way. There are two hydraulic lines attached to the rotator. I detached one line, let it bleed into a bucket, open the control valve to put pressure to the other line, making it rotate in that direction right to the end of rotation. I held the switch to keep the system pressure on the rotator. The fluid kept going into the bucket after the rotator was at it end of travel. Do you think that's because the seals are leaking in the rotator or is there possibly a bypass when you get to the end of rotation? It's a lot of work to take the rotator out and I just don't want to do that for nothing. Please give me your thoughts.
